Expanded AST Licensing Options

Launching in 2023, three new licensing options will become available that will give additional types of authorizations to support and expand the delivery of the SCA Education Certificate Programs.

License Types


AST Standard License

The AST Standard License is the form of authorization that has played a large role in the history of the SCA’s certificate education. This license is non-transferrable, belonging to the trainer who enters the agreement. New in 2023:
AST Flex License

The AST Flex License is for companies who want to offer SCA certificate programs with ASTs as employees. This transferrable license is appointed by the company to a qualified, authorized trainer.

  • An AST Flex License holder can:

    • appoint a qualified, authorized trainer as a designee for the license.

    • transfer the license from one qualified, authorize trainer to another.

    • add module licenses based on trainer eligibility at no extra cost.

    An AST Flex License designated trainer can:

    • have access to AST portal and authorized course materials.

    • create, administer, and deliver courses and exams within licensed modules.

    • maintain a profile for Continuing Professional Development credits.

    • receive invoices related to SCA Administrative fees.

  • An AST Flex License holder:

    • is a corporate entity.

    • adheres to the tenants of the AST Flex License Agreement, and SCA certificate program policies.

    An AST Flex License designated trainer:

    • meets all of the eligibility requirements to become an Authorized SCA Trainer in the chosen program and/or modules.

    • adheres to all of the policies, procedures and code of conduct as put forth by SCA.

    • surrenders any remaining time on a current AST License term they may hold.

New in 2023:
SCA Assistant Instructor License

The AST Assistant Instructor License gives an individual limited authorization to assist the delivery of a course under the mentorship and sponsorship of an AST.

  • An SCA Assistant Instructor License holder can:

    • deliver theoretical content and facilitate practical activities as a part of a course that is constructed, designed, and scheduled by their sponsoring AST.

    • maintain a profile for Continuing Professional Development credits.

    • skip certain steps in the trainer authorization process when becoming an AST.

  • An SCA Assistant Instructor:

    • holds a Professional course certificate in module for the courses in which they are assisting.

    • has passed the General Knowledge Assessment for the program in which they are assisting.

    • is registered with a current AST.

    • is one of only three SCA Assistant Instructors registered with the same AST.

    • renews annually, with a three-term limit.

New in 2023:
SCA Course Administrator License

The SCA Course Administrator License authorizes an individual to conduct administrative tasks on behalf of one or more ASTs so that ASTs can focus more on training.

  • A person with a Course Administrator License can:

    • conduct administrative tasks for multiple ASTs within the same organization, such as creating courses, managing enrollment requests, processing SCA invoice payments and more.

  • An SCA Course Administrator:

    • is an official representative of the same company or organization as the associated ASTs.
