  • New Authorized SCA Trainers

Eligible coffee trainers begin the AST process by completing an application. This online form collects application prerequisites, relevant career experience, training and volunteer experience, and professional references. Applications are processed and reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis around the 10th and 25th of each month.

Eligible applicants with a complete application will be invited to take an online, general knowledge assessment which promotes broad coffee knowledge among our trainer network. This 50-question assessment covers select topics pulled from the lower-level courses within our certificate programs.

Successful applicants will be placed in a queue for one of the upcoming AST courses. Those who do not pass the assessment are invited to reapply after a 60-day period.

The AST Course is rigorous and highly accessible. This three-part orientation is delivered via distance learning with weekly, live sessions and assignments. Completion of the course and related assignments are required to become an AST. With few exceptions, these courses are held at least once a month. Pricing Details

Q: Why do license fees vary by location?
A:
License pricing is aligned with local economic conditions. Using International Monetary Fund data and the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) per-capita index, we group every country into five pricing tiers so that fees remain transparent and equitable.

Q: How do I calculate my license cost?
A:
Please follow the steps below

  1. Locate your country of legal residence in the five-tier list here

  2. Choose your license term: 1-year or 3-year

  3. Decide where you want to teach

o   You may teach in any country within your assigned group (know as your Territory) under an Individual or Enterprise License.

o   If you wish to teach outside that Territory, you must upgrade to a Global Individual or Enterprise license.

  4. Find the license price based on you selections above, in the tables below

Q: What can I teach once I’m licensed?
A:
With any valid license—Individual, Enterprise, or GLOBAL—you may teach any SCA certificate program for which you meet the course-specific eligibility requirements. No extra license fees apply.

AST Individual licenses are non-transferrable, even if an employer or third party pays the license fees for the applicant. If a company would like to own a license, please contact SCA at education@sca.coffee regarding an Enterprise License.
